Guy Luzon rued the early chances Charlton wasted after his side were thrashed 3-0 by Brentford at the Valley.

The Bees inflicted back-to-back three-nil home defeats for the Addicks and they remain in the relegation zone.

John Swift gave Brentford the lead against the run of play and then Alan Judge and Lasse Vibe’s added strikes in the second-half killed the game.

Before the goals, Charlton wasted three golden chances in the first 20 minutes and were made to pay for it.

Luzon said: “In the first 20 minutes of the match, we had four great chances to score but we didn't take advantage.

“The opponent then took the lead and it affected our confidence and common sense - it changed everything.

“Football is a game of momentum and when Brentford scored, they looked like a different side.

“The players who came back helped us but we can’t afford to miss chance after chance because of the situation that we’re in.

Charlton, who are now winless in ten games, face high-flying Middlesbrough next weekend and Luzon is adamant his team’s fortunes will change.

The Israeli boss added: “Compared to the last game, we had great chances to score and I am sure that when everyone is back fully-fit, we will turn it around.

“The returning players will have an extra week of training and will get better and better.

“Makienok had to go off because he could only manage 55 minutes. - if he stayed on any longer and his hamstring tore, he’d be out for three more months.

“It’s not easy at the moment.

“We need to show character and quality to get through this period and things will improve.”

At full-time, home fans booed Luzon and his players with songs like “We are going down” and “You’re getting sacked in the morning” being belted around the ground.
