Charlton Athletic’s first team physiotherapist Erol Umut has provided an injury update ahead of Saturday’s Championship fixture against Brentford.

The Addicks have been plagued with injuries this season, with several first-team regulars sidelined for substantial spells.

Umut has told the club website that the disappointing 3-0 defeat to Preston at the Valley has not resulted in further injuries, but revealed that certain players will remain out of action for quite a while yet.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who had been instrumental to Charlton’s early season success, picked up a dead leg against Reading but should be fit for the London derby against Brentford.

Algerian star Ahmed Kashi is suffering from a heel problem and will see a specialist this week as he looks to regain full fitness.

Striker Igor Vetokele will also visit a specialist for his groin injury, which appears to be a delicate problem for the Angola international.

Goalkeeper Stephen Henderson played for the Under-21s on Monday as he appears to be edging towards a return, although Umut insisted the club would take their time with the 27-year-old to prevent long-term problems.

Simon Makienok, Reza Ghoochannejhad and Johnnie Jackson will also experience gradual returns to Guy Luzon’s first-team after recovering from knocks.

Meanwhile, Cristian Ceballos’s return to training will not be for another two or three weeks after the Barcelona graduate suffered a stress reaction in his fibula.
