Guy Luzon is confident that he will still be the manager of Charlton on Saturday following the Addicks’ 3-0 home defeat to Preston.

Charlton sit in the relegation zone after 12 games and are now winless in nine.

The heavy defeat saw home fans turn on Luzon singing: “You’re getting sacked in the morning.”

He said: “I am confident that I will be in charge this Saturday against Brentford.

“The starting 11 was very unbalanced - tonight we had to play with no wide players and it made it very difficult for us.

“Moussa and McAleny were not 100 per cent and Gudmundsson picked up a knock at Reading.”

Preston, who had not won a league game since August 15, were two-nil up at half-time thanks to two Paul Gallagher wonder strikes.

Daniel Johnson added a third in the 62nd minute which prompted a huge exodus from the home fans.

Luzon revealed how he understood the supporters’ frustration.

He added: “Of course I heard them and I understand their disappointment.

“We as a team are not happy but it is very difficult when you constantly have to change the team each game because of injuries.

“Our job is to give our maximum and to bring home the result which we did not do.

“But we all need to stay together.”

An injury to Johann Berg Gudmundsson meant that Tareiq Holmes-Dennis, a natural left-back, made his first Charlton start and started in left midfield.

While fellow left-back Zak Bergdich occupied the right wing.

Luzon remains positive that his side will improve once key players come back from injury.

Luzon said: “We are missing key players like Reza, Kashi, Vetokele and Makienok, who is not fully-fit, but when they come back, I am sure we will improve.

“Two or three players who were on the bench today will be available from the start on Saturday.

“But Simon Makienok is still coming back from a bad injury so he won’t be able to play from minute one.”

The under-fire Israeli refused to comment on what had been said between himself and the Charlton board in recent weeks.

Charlton languish in 22nd place and are in the relegation zone on goal difference.
