Guy Luzon is confident Charlton Athletic can come away from their daunting trip to Reading on Saturday with at least a point.

The Addicks will travel to the Madejski Stadium on the back of four defeats in five games, while the Royals have won five of their last six league fixtures.

Charlton appeared to be sinking to a fifth successive loss against Fulham last week, but Johnnie Jackson inspired a fine 2-2 draw after trailing 2-0 with ten minutes remaining.

And Luzon, 40, hopes his side can take the momentum gained from the admirable draw into the game against Reading, who sit 3rd in the league going into the match.

“We have to take the good moments from the last game and to continue with this momentum,” Luzon told News Shopper.

“It’s really important that we continue to play positive football.

“We need to be well organised and have high aggression and be confident.

“They are one of the best teams in the league with a good squad, we know it will be a great challenge.

“In this league you can beat everyone, home and away.

“I always believe that we are strong enough and have the quality to get results – we have to show a winning attitude against Reading.

“I’m confident that we are ready and can do it.”

The Addicks have endured several damaging injuries this season, with several significant players sidelined for prolonged periods.

When asked whether the international break has enabled certain players to regain full fitness, Luzon said: “Unfortunately we are in the same situation as we were before with injuries.

“Reza [Ghoochannejhad] has come back to training, Simon Makienok is not ready for Saturday.

“Igor Vetokele is injured and [Cristian] Ceballos has a big injury.

“We have a lot of players injured but it’s important that we focus on the players we have rather than the players out.”

Despite Jackson’s impressive performance after coming off the bench last week, Luzon refused to say whether the midfielder would start against the Royals.

He added: “We’ll see – he will take part.

“I always have expectation for my players. Jackson really helped us in the last game and he looks better in training.

“I’m sure he has the quality and the character to influence the Reading game.”
