Eagles winger Bakary Sako believes tomorrow’s Capital One Cup tie between Crystal Palace and Charlton is a big game for the fans and everyone at the club.

Speaking after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, the Frenchman was already looking ahead to the south-east London derby under the Selhurst lights with enthusiasm and confidence.

“The game on Wednesday evening is very important for the fans,” Sako said.

“Losing at Spurs means we’ve lost two league games in a row, so it’s a chance for us to put the results right.

“If we can get back to winning ways before we travel to Watford at the weekend, then that will do everyone a lot of good.”

Sako pointed out even though he has plied his trade in English football for a number of years, the chance to play in a derby match doesn’t come around too often.

“I didn’t play too many derbies at Wolves,” he said.

“During my time in England it’s only really been when we’ve played Birmingham City, so Wednesday will be good to have an atmosphere.

“But it will be very tough, too.”

Away from the rigours of the top flight, the cup is something which a team of Crystal Palace’s ability should arguably be in with a chance of winning, a point Sako recognises.

“It’s a competition we feel we can go a long way in,” he added.

“We’re going to try to do as well as we can in everything, in all competitions.”

The showdown will see Alan Pardew come up against his former employers from The Valley, adding spice to what is always a hotly contested affair.

Sako believes his boss won’t underestimate Guy Luzon’s men and will put out a strong side to face the Addicks.

“The manager has said he’ll put out a good side to face Charlton because it’s going to be tough and it’s a very big game,” said the winger.
