Addicks head coach Guy Luzon is still on the lookout for a new keeper and remains confident of getting the deal done sooner rather than later.

With regular number one Stephen Henderson ruled out through injury until after the first international break, Nick Pope has started the first two games with Dimitar Mitov on the bench.

Luzon had been hoping to draft in a more experienced pair of hands before the opening day 2-0 win over QPR, something which didn’t happen in the end.

The clock is still ticking ahead of this weekend’s trip to Derby and although Luzon isn’t sure yet if the deal will be done before then, he believes it is only a matter of when.

“I don’t know if it will happen before the game on Saturday but we will do it,” the SE7 chief said.

“If not this week, then next week we will find someone we will sign.”

One man who will not be filling the void is former Arsenal keeper Stuart Taylor, who had been on trial at Sparrows Lane this summer.

“No, he is not here,” confirmed Luzon.

Luzon refused to be drawn on whether Charlton are poised to bring in Dagenham winger Jodi Jones by insisting he had nothing to say until any deal was announced.

And the Addicks coach replied to a question about the latest on James Henry by saying it was not relevant because the winger is back in the Wolves team.

Reza Ghoochannejhad marked his return to the fold by coming off the bench and scoring in Tuesday’s 4-1 League Cup demolition of Dagenham.

But Luzon was coy when asked if this means Valley fans will be seeing a lot more of the Iranian international.

The boss said: “Every player that is still in our squad if I think if he has the quality to take part in the games he will play.

“And if not he will not.

“Now he is part of the squad and maybe he will play, maybe not but we will see.

“Reza is a top professional and he always trains well.”

Another attacker who has been busy on first team duty so far is teenager Karlan Ahearne-Grant, who started against QPR and also scored in the Daggers cup game.

And age is clearly no barrier as far as the manager is concerned.

Luzon added: “When I choose my XI and I choose my squad I don’t care if he is young or is he is an old guy.

“I don’t judge players on their age, only on his quality.

“He showed quality and because of that he played.”
