Saturday’s defeat of QPR has laid down the foundations for the season ahead.

I wasn’t there because my friend selfishly decided that he had to get married, but by all accounts a reasonable first half performance was engrossed with an extra spark upon the half-time arrival of Tony Watt.

His early goal set the tone for the second half, where the Addicks went on to pummel their cash-laden visitors.

Of course, the big news before kick-off was the fact the electrifying Scotsman was only to start on the bench.

It emerged afterwards Guy Luzon was asserting his power over the former Celtic man following a training ground misdemeanor.

This was a risky move from the Israeli Alex Ferguson, but it appears to have paid off.

Judging by the fact Luzon has said Watt won’t be fined, we can assume it was a minor transgression and the matter is now closed.

Watt has been reminded to act seriously, even in training, and has come back into the side to prove himself to his head coach once again.

Two goals in two games – point proven.

The second goal of the game was a first for the club for Morgan ‘Fox in the box’ Fox.

Trawling through forum and Twitter comments, it seems a majority of fans are now starting to see what I saw in the second half of last season from the young left-back.

No bones about it, Morgan had some shaky, nervous moments at the beginning of his first team career.

He then got picked out as a figure for ridicule, to the extent that as his performances improved, his reviews didn’t really.

Sometimes we as fans see what we want to see from a player.

So Fox could have a great game, notch an assist, make numerous strong tackles, score a hat-trick, save a penalty and invent a cure for Palace but still would be remembered for one shanked clearance that knocks over someone’s Bovril.

This gave Morgan a mountain to climb to win over portions of The Valley faithful.

The fact that he has started to shows just how well he has grown into the side and made that left-back position his own.

Tuesday’s routine cup win over Dagenham was an agreeable evening, and it was fantastic personally to see the Addicks in competitive action for the first time this term.

Reza coming off the bench and scoring was a confusing moment for me.

After his weak performances and sanctimonious exit at the start of Bob Peeters’ reign, I was ready to go all Morgan Fox on him and refuse to acknowledge any positive signs.

But it was a good finish and I give him credit for that.

If - and it’s a massive if - he stays in SE7 and can transfer a few of those World Cup performances into a Charlton shirt then maybe, just maybe, we’ll have a useful option off the bench.

Off the pitch, the club have reported season ticket sales exceeding 10,000.

Sadly, a fair old percentage of those never made it out to the purchasers in time for the opening day against QPR.

Data migration during database upgrades seem to be the cause of this balls up.

Measures were put in place to make sure everyone who should be was allowed in for the QPR game was, but these were by all accounts rather inconvenient and time consuming.

The ticket office has normally been very good over the years, but this was a monumental foul up for a sizeable business.

I’d hope and expect the club will be going out of their way to compensating the effected by means of more than just an apology, in order to win back some of that goodwill from disgruntled punters.

The situation with Valley Away coaches for Derby at the iPro on Satuday will have further dented some goodwill from some of our most ardent travellers.

I’ve been on those coaches many a time and they’ve always been easy to use and book when ordering match tickets.

The fact that these weren’t available to be booked until three days before the game is another embarrassment and inconvenience for supporters who would have wanted to plan their day ahead of time.

So on the pitch, things seem to be going well and let’s hope that continues this weekend.

Off it, there’s some sharpening up to do.

Come on you reds!
