Charlton manager Guy Luzon insists the winning feeling around SE7 after two victories in four days can be the catalyst for a successful season.

Luzon watched his side run out comfortable 4-1 winners over Dagenham & Redbridge in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening, and was delighted with the application and performance of his side.

“Every game is important for us because winning is a habit we need to keep, for the youngsters and for the club,” he said.

“The side has a lot of quality, but I knew that before I made the changes for this game.

“It was important for us to advance in the competition and we’ve done well to win in this way this evening.

“We prepared well, and showed good attitude, as well as scoring four goals and I’m very satisfied, and now we must turn our focus to the game against Derby County on Saturday.”

Indeed, Luzon handed full debuts to Cristian Ceballos, Naby Saar and Zakayara Bergdich for the cup tie against the Daggers, and was impressed with how the new boys fared.

He explained: “There are players tonight who’ve done well and now they’re in my plans going forward.

“I’m happy they performed well and we’re ready to push on.

“Everyone gave everything with a good attitude, they all played their part.

“When you have three games in a week this sort of rotation is necessary and normal.”

Tony Watt opened the scoring for the hosts and further strikes from Karlan Ahearne-Grant, Zakaraya Bergdich and Reza Ghoochannejhad sealed the side’s victory in the second round .

Luzon singled out a select few of individuals who caught his eye on the night.

The boss said: “Tony played really well tonight and gave good service both going forward and in defence – he showed a good attitude and he’s a quality player.

“Reza and Karlan impressed me too and we’re happy they played and scored – it was Karlan’s first for the club and for such a young lad that’s vital, he can now push on too.

“Patrick Bauer is a young player with a lot of talent who’ll improve as the season goes on, he’ll keep getting better and better.

“Nick Pope is also someone who I’ve been very happy with, he played well on Saturday and this evening.”
