Defender Morgan Fox believes Charlton are not going to let other sides roll over them this season following the Addicks’ impressive opening day 2-0 victory over QPR.

The full-back scored his first goal for the club after 72 minutes with a fine left-footed finish to double the advantage provided by Tony Watt’s 52nd minute opener and seal a fine day for Guy Luzon’s men.

And the 21-year-old has warned other Championship outfits not to write off Charlton this year after they were named on the shortlist for relegation candidates by many so-called experts.

“I don’t get many, but I’m definitely going to enjoy that one,” said Fox of his goal.

“It was the perfect start really.

“QPR are a big side who just got relegated from the Premier League, but we showed that we were up to the task.

“Anyone who comes here will rise to the challenge but we are not going to let them roll of over us.

“I think people have written us off due to a number of new faces but I felt we grew together, especially in the second half where we were brilliant.”

Following Rhoys Wiggins’ departure to Sheffield Wednesday last week, the first choice left-back spot is very much in the hands of Fox, who sees maintaining his place as the main target for the rest of the season.

He said: “Ever since I broke into the first team I’ve been wanting to make that spot my own.

“Hopefully I can do that this season and to play as many games as I can.

“That’s the ambition.

“With Jordan Cousins ahead of me, he’s not a winger so he comes inside a lot and that opens it up for me to get forward.”

Watt was initially dropped from the starting XI due to an incident at the training ground on Friday.

But he came on as a half-time substitute to change the game for the Addicks and Fox praised the forward for his contribution afterwards.

He said: “I think this could be his season - he’s brilliant for us.

“You saw him second half where he had that impact and he’s a great outlet.

“Hopefully he can get some goals and have a great season for us.”
