Charlton manager Guy Luzon insists that he knows the exact recruitment process that is needed to make Charlton competitive in the Championship next season.

Speaking after the side’s 2-0 victory at Dagenham and Redbridge on Wednesday evening, the manager shed some light on the number of new players he was looking to bring in too.

“At the moment we don’t have a full squad and we played with youngsters today, but I hope that within the next fortnight we can get a full squad and work from there,” he said.

“We will bring in another 3, 4 or possibly 5 new faces still and then we can complete our squad.

“I know exactly which players we want to bring in and the positions that we need, so we will see.”

The contest at Victoria Road on Wednesday saw a senior side take to the field for the first half, before a more youthful eleven pulled on the shirt for the second  - Luzon hinted that a stronger side would be played against West Ham at The Valley on Saturday.

“For us the game isn’t too serious, the one on Saturday is bigger for us. We’ll have a more settled side against West Ham and we’ll have a stronger side and we can work from there.

“We have good strikers we can rotate, and the best will play – depending on how they’re doing I may change it because every striker is different.”

“I hope Jordan Cousins will be fit, as well as Rhoys Wiggins, Johnnie Jackson and Igor Vetokele.”

Charlton completed their fourth summer acquisition last week with the signing of Ahmed Kashi from FC Metz, and the Charlton manager was full of praise for the defensive midfielder’s qualities.

“Kashi will bring us a lot of quality; he’s aggressive defensively and also very good with the ball,” he said.

“He can organise the game well and plays well with both feet.

“Last season we had a small squad, this year physicality is key and the signings so far will help us with height and power. It’s important to have a good mix.”

The win rounded off a good day for Addicks fans, with Johann Berg-Gudmundsson’s new four year deal announced earlier that morning – Luzon expressed his delight with the winger’s new deal.

“Johann’s deal is crucial because he is key for us, it was vital that he continued with us next year.”

Finally, the manager was questioned about Joe Gomez’s move to Liverpool, and emphasised the qualities and capabilities of the young English defender.

“We’re all delighted for Joe, and we always knew he was going to be able to be able to play at that level, I am sure one day he’ll be one of the best defenders in the country.”
