Charlton Athletic have banned an angry fan after receiving a number of 'discriminatory, abusive and threatening comments'.

The 33 year-old male season ticket holder, known on Twitter as '@greekboy334433' has been banned indefinitely from the Valley after criticising Charlton's new LGBT group, Proud Valiants, stating 'these people need to support Brighton'.

A Charlton Athletic spokesman said the club and fellow supporters received a number of 'discriminatory, abusive and threatening' comments from an individual on social media.

Charlton's head of matchday operations Mick Everett said: "The club would like to remind all supporters that it will not tolerate discrimination of any kind and Charlton Athletic is a football club which offers a sense of belonging, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, disability or religion.

"While we would have reserved the right to retain the individual's payment for his 2015/2016 season ticket, we decided to draw a line under the incident by offering to refund his money and exclude him from all home games."

The club have also been contacted by football's equality and inclusion organisation Kick It Out who have passed on the offensive comments to the police for further investigation.

News Shopper have been contacted by '@greekboy334433' who plans to release a statement on the matter.
