Tony Watt revealed Charlton manager Guy Luzon has nicknamed him the doctor - because the striker never believes he is wrong.

The Scotland U21 international arrived at Sparrows Lane during the January transfer window and has made a big impact on what was a struggling Addicks side.

Five goals and five assists in 21 league appearances, tireless energy and an infectious confidence on the ball have quickly endeared the forward to the SE7 faithful – and he’s had a big impact on the new manager too.

Watt enthused: “I like Guy and obviously he’s played me a lot, so I just want to keep doing that for him and the team.

“He’s always honest with me and he tells me what I do wrong. He likes to call me doctor because he thinks I’ve always got an opinion on everything and that I’m always right – which I do, I’m never wrong!”

Few could argue against the fact Watt’s arrival in January sparked the struggling Londoners back to life.

The former Celtic man has formed an impressive strike partnership with Igor Vetokele since his arrival and admitted the change of fortunes was something he was glad to be involved in.

Watt said: “It was nice to get a little turnaround when I came into the side.

“It was a small squad and we didn’t have a lot of players.

“They added three or four players in January and then luckily enough it started going well when I joined.”

Having not a won game since November 8 in a 1-0 victory at Reading, Bob Peeters’ side were struggling in the league.

The arrival of fresh faces in January, including Watt and new manager Luzon, revitalised what was beginning to look a tiring and weary squad, culminating in a solid 12th place finish at the end of the season.

Watt added: “It was a big team effort from everyone in the team.

“If you look at the people we have to leave out on the bench there’s some top players there, so I’m just lucky to be playing.”

The striker found himself out of luck at Standard Liege after quitting Scottish football for Belgium.

But there were no such problems getting regular football under Luzon in London as Watt quickly become a first team regular for the Addicks, something he wishes to continue in August.

“That’s the main thing for me, I just want to be playing every week and getting as many minutes under my belt as possible.

“I’ve been able to that here so far, and I’ve really enjoyed it. I hope it will continue next season.”
