Winger Johann Gudmundsson says he’s waiting to hear the plans Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet has for the club’s future before deciding on his own.

The Icelandic international arrived in SE7 on a two-year deal after leaving AZ Alkmaar in Holland last summer but has recently been linked with Premier League duo Stoke City and Hull.

And Gudmundsson admits he wants to find out more about Duchatelet’s ambitions before committing to a new contract.

He said: “I’ve said all along that I’ll wait and see what happens in the summer.

“I want to find out the aim of the club and what the plans of the owner are.

“It’s whether or not he’s going to push for a play-off place, because we have the quality to do so if we add a few more players.

“I want to play in the Premier League and hopefully I’ll play there with Charlton.

“But it’s up to what we do at the club.

“Are we going to spend or are we happy where we are?

“It will be interesting. Every player wants to play in the Premier League.”

Gudmundsson notched 11 goals in all competitions in his debut season at The Valley with some spectacular strikes along the way.

“I’ve scored some great goals this season,” he said.

“Quite a few of them meant that I won the team points too, so that was nice.

“The fans seemed to enjoy them too - and that’s the thing that I was most happy with.”

Having been pipped to the player of the year award on Sunday evening by Jordan Cousins, the winger was full of praise for his team-mate, as well as the way the Addicks managed to turn their fortunes around in the second half of the season.

“Well done to Jordan because he’s played fantastically this season,” added Gudmundsson.

“They’re great fans here.

“We had some difficult times this season but I think overall we’ve done OK.

“The lowest point was the 5-0 loss at Watford, but the players responded really well after that.

“We did well under both managers in different spells.

“The run where we couldn’t win a game was crazy, but Guy Luzon came in and tried to change a few things.

“At first it was a bit difficult because he tried to change before the 5-0 loss and we were a little lost out there and it didn’t really work.

“But after a while it all started to work - he got his ideas across to all the players and we ended the season well.”
