Addicks boss Guy Luzon has scoffed at speculation about Joe Gomez after Manchester City became the latest Premier League club linked with the England U19 defender.

Arsenal, Everton and Newcastle have all reportedly been keeping tabs on the 17-year-old but this week the Daily Mail added Manuel Pellegrini’s side to the growing list of potential suitors.

Luzon has already pointed out Charlton have no intention of cashing in on their prize asset, a position the Valley chief once again reiterated this lunchtime when asked about the Man City story.

He said: “I think now he is not ready to play in the Premier League.

“Of course he can be in the squad for one of the teams but I don’t think his target is to be part of the squad.

“Now at his age he needs to play and only by playing consistently will he improve his level.

“It is no doubt that we are the best place for him now.”

Pressed on whether he was becoming annoyed with the growing rumours on Gomez’s future, Luzon added: “I don’t think about it (stories) and I don’t care about the speculation.

“I know what is good for the club and what is good for him.

“For the club and for him the best thing is to stay.”
