Charlton head coach Guy Luzon doesn’t believe Blackburn’s FA Cup exploits will have any bearing on Saturday’s Valley meeting between the two sides.

The Ewood Park outfit have done the Championship proud in the famous knockout competition, holding Liverpool 0-0 at Anfield last Sunday to secure a home replay and the potential prospect of a Wembley semi-final against Aston Villa.

But any notion that run might have impacted on Rovers’ league form was firmly disproved by last night’s dramatic late 1-0 Lancashire derby success over Bolton.

Next up is a visit to a Charlton side they ironically knocked out of the cup in the third round, although Luzon is adamant there is a big difference between that competition and the Championship.

He explained: “Blackburn play in the FA Cup (v Liverpool) and then they won last night against Bolton.

“It is not important what they do in the cup.

“The cup is the cup and the league is the league, it is a different game.”

Blackburn starts another busy seven days for the Addicks before a midweek trip to Blackpool and then a home date with Reading.

However, Luzon isn’t thinking that far ahead just yet.

“We don’t need to think too much about the three games, we need to focus about the first game and to do our maximum to get a result.”

Rhoys Wiggins and Johnnie Jackson will not return before the international break according to the boss.

Tal Ben Haim is available for selection against Blackburn, while keeper Stephen Henderson faces a late fitness test tomorrow after coming off at half-time during last weekend’s 2-1 win at Cardiff.

Star striker Igor Vetokele was an unused sub for that success in the Welsh capital, with Luzon eager to reassure fans this wasn’t down to any fitness concerns.

“Igor Vetokele is not injured,” theSE7 chief said.

“He didn’t play on Saturday because he is a man, he is not a machine and he has played a lot of games.

“We’ve played every three days games the last period.

“Igor needed to rest to be fresh for the next game.”
