Yoni Buyens admits he is enjoying his central midfield partnership with Jordan Cousins.

The Belgian has played alongside the 21-year-old academy graduate since Cousins was moved in from the right wing against Brentford.

Charlton have since gone on to win five games out of the next six, with Buyens full of admiration for Cousins’ talent.

“Jordan has a lot of quality,” said Buyens.

“He’s a very young player but he is really powerful, he has good technique.

“It’s nice to play with him, but it doesn’t really matter who is playing in the midfield I think because we have got a lot of quality in the squad.

“Everyone can be in the team.

“We need just every game to give 100 percent because if you don’t do it one time you go out of the squad.

“I had it once and it is the same for everyone. It keeps everyone sharp.”

The Standard Liege loanee was talking after his late penalty had handed Charlton all three points in a 2-1 success at Cardiff City on Saturday.

It was his fifth successful penalty of the season, a 100 percent record which has seen the 26-year-old put all his spot-kicks to the goalkeeper’s right so far.

But the midfielder said he would look at other places to put them in the future if needed.

“Sometimes I change,” he explained.

“In my head I know where I am going to shoot.

“If the goalkeeper goes that side, I’ll change the side I am going to shoot.”

Saturday’s performance had been a stumbling one by Charlton until Chris Eagles and Simon Church came off the bench to freshen things up after the Addicks fell behind to Federico Macheda’s 56th minute opener.

And Buyens was quick to praise their impact.

“The guys who came in did a fantastic job but that’s part of being in the team,” he said.

“When you’re on the bench and you come in, you have to try and give something to the team, something good - and they all did.

“I think Churchy did very well.”

The introduction of the duo was the final roll of the dice by Guy Luzon after regular number one Stephen Henderson was forced off by injury at the break and replaced by Marko Dmitrovic.

Buyens added: “The goalkeeper who came in was very good and so was Chris Eagles.

“It’s always nice to have guys on the bench who can bring something.”

The penalty hero was delighted to be able to secure the win for the Addicks but warned they must not rest on their laurels if they want to continue their good form.

Buyens said: “I hope that winning will become a habit but it’s always dangerous in the Championship.

“You can lose against any team and you can win against almost any team.

“It’s a difficult competition because every game is a new start.

“We take it from game to game.

“It’s not like we are counting how many matches in a row we are winning or losing because that’s not important.”

He added: “We’re not dreaming about anything and we’re not afraid about anything neither.

“We’ll just try to win as many games as we can and just enjoy the end of the season.

“We have ten games left and will just try to bring our best and have fun in the games like we did in the last half an hour today and in the previous games.”
