Guy Luzon praised his side’s second half performance as the Addicks came from behind to win 2-1 at Cardiff City.

A goal early in the second half from the Bluebirds’ Frederico Macheda had put the Londoners behind.

However, two goals in the last sixteen minutes turned it around for the Addicks.

Firstly, Tony Watt converted a low cross from within the penalty area before Simon Church was fouled in the box with just three minutes remaining and Yoni Buyens fired past Simon Moore from the spot to give the visitors all three points.

Luzon was pleased his side were able to put on a show in the second half.

“I’m delighted,” said the Israeli.

“After going 1-0 down to Cardiff away, to score two goals and win this game is fantastic for us.

“To be honest I didn’t like our performance in the first half - we didn’t move the ball, we didn’t create chances.

“We were organised but without aggression. It was not good enough.

“In the first half the rhythm of us and the tempo was not good.

“We knew that if we didn’t change the tempo then we wouldn’t have a chance to win this game.

“Every game away or home, my target is to win and take the three points, to be offensive.

“I didn’t like our attitude in the first half but we changed it and we won.

“In the second half we switched the tempo and we started to move the ball and create chances.

“I’m happy that we made it in the second half and we showed a lot of character.”

The head coach had made some telling substitutions in the second half, with Chris Eagles and Church both brought on and both influential with the goals which turned the game around.

But he refused to take the credit for the comeback.

“It’s not me, it’s the players’ quality,” he explained.

“I only give the players advice. I change the players when they are a little bit tired or I need to put them in the game.

“It’s my job you know, it’s because of that that I get money!”

Keeper Stephen Henderson took a knock in the first half and was eventually replaced by Marko Dmitrovic at the break.

Luzon revealed: “Henderson twisted his ankle.

“Marko (Dmitrovic) played and did very well. Both of them are great goalkeepers.”

Top scorer Igor Vetokele was left on the bench for the entire game, with Luzon stating the striker needed a break.

“Igor has played a lot in the last period with a high tempo and gives everything. He needed to rest,” he said.

Buyens calmly struck penalty was his fifth successful spot-kick of the season.

Luzon joked: “Yoni is cool in the game and after the game.

“I’m happy that he had confidence when taking the penalty because he did it very well.

“He did it very well at the start of the season and he knows how to do it.”

Mid-table seems the best the Addicks can hope for with the play-off positions still 14 points away.

However, Luzon will not let his players rest on their laurels between now and the end of the season with all fears of relegation long since gone.

“There’s no way that the side will not be motivated.

“I can promise here that every game we will come and give 100 percent.

“Even if it’s a friendly game I want to win it, I don’t know any different.”

“I don’t think that we need to think about the play-offs, only the next game.

“If in the end then we’d have some chance then OK, but we only need to concentrate on the next game.”
