Charlton manager Guy Luzon was pleased that his side were able to give a sell-out Valley crowd a ‘brilliant’ performance in the 3-0 victory over Chris Powell’s Huddersfield.

The home side opened the scoring after 34 minutes when Johann Berg Gudmundsson fired in a terrific free-kick after a nervy opening to the game.

Forward Tony Watt grabbed a brace in the second-half with the first one of the two strikes coming just three minutes after half-time, following good work by strike-partner, Igor Vetokele.

The Scottish forward then added Charlton’s third and his second on 71 minutes with an excellent left-footed strike from the edge of the box.

And Luzon praised his side’s performances all over the pitch.

He said: “Our target today was not only to bring a result but it was brilliant that today in a full stadium that we go home with a good feeling.

“We played with a good combination in attack, we were calm with the ball and the fans are happy.

“We are happy because in defence, we played very well and got another clean sheet.

“It was the kind of football I wanted, not only the result but the need to enjoy the game and today we enjoyed it.

"The last four games, we have had three clean sheets,  "In offence I give them advice, but they don’t need to be like a robot, and not doing everything the coach says,  "They still need to make the right decision in the right moment."

Watt’s performance no doubt impressed the home supporters but Luzon believes that the 21 year-old can still improve his game.

Luzon said: “I’m happy that me and him (Watt) are here together at Charlton.

“Tony is a younger player with a lot of potential, “He has a lot of time and space to improve and if he continually works hard, he will be better.

“All the players played well, so the result was because the team together, played well.”

With over 25,000 fans in the ground, Luzon hopes that they return to The Valley on Tuesday night for the match against Nottingham Forest.

He said: “The atmosphere was great. I hope on Tuesday all the fans that were here, come here Tuesday because I’m sure that all the people enjoyed it. I know when I go somewhere I enjoy, I want to go back.”
