Charlton fans set a trend on Twitter last night to help support the club’s Football for a Fiver promotion.

Every ticket inside The Valley is just £5 on Saturday (3pm) when Huddersfield Town are the visitors to SE7.

As part of the club’s efforts to promote Saturday’s game and help fill The Valley, supporters were encouraged to take to Twitter and tweet the phrase #FootballForAFiver at 6pm on Monday evening.

The tag quickly moved into the social media platform’s list of top trends in London, before also climbing to number two in the UK rankings and staying in the top 10 for a number of hours.

As of Tuesday morning, social media analytics suggested that the #FootballForAFiver tag had been seen in the timelines of more than 615,000 Twitter users and made nearly two million total impressions.

Fans from a number of number of other clubs also contacted Charlton directly to praise them for the discounted offer which makes attending live football even more accessible.

The visit of the Terriers – managed by former Addicks boss Chris Powell – will be the sixth time Charlton have run the popular discount ticket promotion and on each previous occasion it has resulted in a bumper turnout in SE7.

Following further strong sales, more than 24,000 tickets for the game had been sold as of Tuesday morning (Valley capacity 27,111) and there are now an extremely limited number of tickets still available.

Supporters are being urged to book immediately to avoid disappointment.

Tickets are available online, in person at The Valley and by calling the ticket office on 03330 144444.
