Charlton winger Callum Harriott hopes to get the home fans back on side for what will be a difficult remainder of the season.

The academy graduate came on with the Addicks trailing 2-0 in last night’s game with Norwich and immediately saw his side pull a goal back thanks to fellow substitute Tony Watt’s first for the club.

Igor Vetokele then struck for the first time since early November to draw the teams level, only for Cameron Jerome to head home Norwich’s winner late on.

There was a toxic atmosphere inside The Valley after Norwich got their second and boos filled the ground as the players and manager made their way down the tunnel at half-time.

Harriott said: “Obviously the fans are frustrated because it has been months since we have had a result.

“But it is important that we keep performing and give it our all in the position that we are in and the fans should try and stick with us.

“It was a good feeling when they got back behind us, everyone wanted to keep playing as usual.

“When the fans are on your side it gives you a boost.

“We were still fighting and we just conceded a silly goal.”

The 20-year-old feels his team showed character and determination, but were let down but some sloppy defending.

He explained: “We knew what we wanted to do when we went out.

“The first half I think we worked hard but conceded silly goals.

“Even when we went down to 2-0 the boys never gave up.

“We kept showing that hunger to come back and get some goals.

“I came on in the second half and the team was still showing that we wanted to fight and hopefully get another goal because the next goal was vital.

“Then we got one, then another - and I would not say we got complacent with a draw because we knew we needed a win with the position we are in - but then conceded a bit of a shocking goal.”

Harriott knows the players need to remain united through what has been one of the worst runs in the club’s recent history.

He said: “I think it is important we all stick together.

“If we keep shouting at each other and he is not getting on and he is not getting on, then we are not going to finish anywhere in the league.

“In every game we go into, we know we need to fight and give it our all because we are not number one in the league - and even if we were we would still have to give it our all anyway.

“So I think it is important we need to get over it.

“We lost, and we have to go onto the next one and keep our confidence because we know what we are capable of.”
