Tony Watt is set to become Charlton’s first signing of the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old Standard Liege striker, who scored Celtic’s winning goal in the famous 2012 victory over Barcelona, is to arrive on a short-term deal.

“Tony Watt will come to Charlton,” revealed manager Bob Peeters.

“That’s one of the guys who will be available.

“If we get (Igor) Vetokele and Watt available for Saturday (at home to Brighton) then we have some options up front.

“At this moment the only player we’re gonna sign is Tony Watt. We’re still looking but the transfer window is long, and we need the approval of the chairman as well.

“I think he did well last season. He wasn’t too happy (in Belgium) but he will give you something up front.

“He has pace and he has scoring ability. He’s a guy who will always threaten in front of goal and that’s what we lack at the moment. I think we depend a little bit too much on (top scorer) Igor Vetokele.

“(Watt) scored against Barcelona in the Champions League.

“He will give you some experience and he will give you some freshness.”
