Joe Pigott looks set to complete his loan spell with Newport County after Bob Peeters today ruled out a return to The Valley for the young attacker.

The 20-year-old has been in fine form for the League Two side since hooking up with them on loan last month, scoring three goals in nine games for the south Wales outfit.

Charlton’s dependence on Igor Vetokele for goals has been underlined by the Angolan international’s recent injury problems.

But with the Addicks’ leading scorer on his way back to full fitness, along with the returning Johann Gudmundsson, head coach Peeters looks set to resist the temptation of recalling Pigott to SE7.

The Belgian explained: “No, I think he is experiencing now a new level.

“He has scored some good goals but again that was the main thing - that he could go there and play regularly.

“I think the best thing now for Joe is stay there until January and then we will reassess, because at this moment he is doing well and is getting to be a better player.

“But if Igor comes back and Johann is back and everybody is fit he might be on the bench again here at Charlton and that’s not good for him.

“He needs to play and keep on scoring goals but I like him as a player, he knows that.

“The more games he gets under the belt and the more goals he scores, the more confident he will get and we will reassess his situation in January.”
