Bob Peeters declared himself happy after his depleted side saw off Bolton 2-1 at the Valley this evening.

Charlton were without top scorer Igor Vetokele, Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Chris Solly for the Trotters clash.

But they were still able to bounce back from Saturday’s first defeat of the campaign at Bournemouth and bag the three points against perennial Championship strugglers Bolton.

The Addicks led at the break thanks to George Tucudean’s well taken 28th minute opener, their first shot on target.

Skipper Johnnie Jackson doubled the advantage early in the second half, although Dean Moxey halved the deficit on 54 minutes and Bolton almost grabbed an equaliser when Jermaine Beckford’s header was cleared off the line by Rhoys Wiggins.

It may not have been the most convincing display of the season, but Charlton held on to secure the points and are now just outside of the play-off places on goal difference.

Peeters said: “In the game the first five minutes I think Bolton was the better team.

“Then we came in the game and scored a magnificent goal with Tucudean.

“I said at half-time ‘OK, we need to continue and try and get the second one’.

“We scored again a brilliant goal I think – one-touch football, a great finish - and then normally you sit back and enjoy the game.

“The first shot they have really on goal they score and from that moment on they gave everything and tried to score the second goal.

“My team at a certain stage was defending but it is a massive result.

“If you see the game and you see which players we missed, because if you miss Chris Solly, Vetokele and Gudmundsson, those are three of the better players of the team.

“But again all the people who played today did very well and the most important thing is we have 22 points, so I’m pretty happy.

“Everybody said before the season we were favourites to get relegated and now we have 22 points, so it gives us a major boost.”
