Midfielder Lawrie Wilson believes Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham was a case of two points dropped rather one gained for the Addicks.

David Davis’ 53rd minute equaliser cancelled out Igor Vetokele’s first half opener to give Lee Clark’s visiting side a more than deserved point at The Valley.

But Wilson, who played the first 70 minutes before being replaced by George Tucudean, feels Charlton should have done more to secure all three points.

He said: “The first 10 to 15 minutes we were keeping the ball very well and then managed to score.

“Looking back at it now, we should have really carried it on and gone on to score two or three.

“But unfortunately Birmingham came back at us, we dropped off a little bit and they changed their shape.

“In the end, it’s probably a good point, but in the first 10 to 15 minutes it felt like we could have gone on.

“I probably think that it was two points lost today.”

Saturday’s result means Charlton are still unbeaten after 11 matches, an achievement Wilson is proud to be a part of.

The 27-year-old added: “It’s a nice thing to come away from the game and go into this international break still unbeaten.

“It’s nice for the fans to still be able to talk to other fans and their family about still being unbeaten.

“We need to turn these draws into wins now to keep us up at the top end of the table.

“It’s easy to get carried away and to start thinking, ‘imagine if we can go the whole season unbeaten’.

“But when you look past the next game, you can get very complacent.”

Wilson was full of praise for Vetokele after the forward scored his sixth goal of the season and claims the Angolan deserves all the plaudits that have been coming his way.

He explained: “Obviously as a player, if you see your striker scoring goals it’s a nice thing and it gets you out of trouble sometimes.

“It’s good for him going into this international break having scored because he works so hard.

“You look at the data after games and the high intensity - he works so hard, so it’s nice to see the reward with a goal.

“We’ve been difficult to beat, we’ve been very solid, very organised and with players with got up top like Igor, we always give ourselves a chance.”
