Charlton manager Bob Peeters tonight hinted Tours striker Andy Delort could soon be joining the club following his side’s 4-0 thrashing of Colchester United in the Capital One Cup.

The Addicks were impressive in the victory over the League One outfit, secured by a brace from Lawrie Wilson and solitary efforts from Yoni Buyens (penalty) and Simon Church.

But it was the subject of Delort which was uppermost in the thoughts of the media at Peeters’ post-match press conference after the French forward revealed earlier today he was frustrated by the delay to his proposed move to The Valley.

“It’s good that he wants to play for Charlton,” the Addicks head coach said.

“I love players who want to come and play for us.

“I let players go who don’t want to be here anymore, I only want dedicated players and players who want to come here and join us.

“Andy Delort is an interesting player but at this moment he is still playing for Tours.

“I don’t know (if the deal is close) as I was coaching the game today.

“I think something between the two clubs (is being discussed).

“I hear a lot of rumours but then again everyday another team comes in to sign him.

“At this moment there is no signing.”

Some of Charlton’s fringe players were given a chance to impress in tonight’s straightforward success over 10-man Colchester, although Peeters admits new additions are likely be made before the end of the transfer window.

He said: “We are still looking for players because you need a big squad in the Championship so there are going to be a lot of games.

“We only want to bring players who can fit into Charlton and be 100 percent ready to play here.

“There’s still until August 31. We have the time and we will see what time will bring."

Peeters was pleased with his side’s composed victory, but wasn’t entirely happy with the performance.

The head coach added: “I thought first half we played some good football but not enough to create chances.

“Second half we said ‘OK we need to keep our composure and be more reliable on the ball’.

“But still I think there was a lot of garbage in our game and we need to do it a little bit better if you play against top teams in the Championship because they will punish you.”
