Lacy makes winning debut

DEAN Lacy made a surprise debut for his first Assembly League run last Thursday.

Despite getting slightly lost on the twisty 4.6km course around Beckenham, the Cambridge Harriers runner easily pulled away from the field once he knew where the finish was to win the race in 14m49s.

Fellow Harrier Rob Jackaman benefited from his marathon training by taking a solid third place.

The team races are always hotly contested and the senior men's squad could only manage fourth place with Victoria Park Harriers taking top spot.

Clare Gibson was second in the senior women's race behind Clare Elms running for Dulwich Runners.

New Cambridge Harriers president Keith Penny ran a solid race in his first outing in his new role.

Cambridge Harriers results: First - Dean Lacy 14m49s; Third - Rob Jackaman 14m57s; 22nd - Mark Cross 15m59s; 30th - Steve Richards 16m16s; 31st - Liam Corcoran 16m20s; 34th - Clare Gibson 16m25s; 38th - Martin Hawkins 16m35s; 43rd - Graham Maynard 16m42s; 44th - Jerry Carnell 16m47s; 59th - Mick Ellsmore 17m13s; 89th - Paul Cullern 18m23s; 114th - Rosa Samson-Geroski 19m01s; 126th - Keith Penny 19m20s; 128th - Mick Simmons 19m23s; 144th - Steve Brown 19m47s; 145th - J Cullinane 19m51s; 159th - John Corcoran 20m20s; 187th - Les Wright 21m37s.
