Dartford athletes keep busy in outdoor open events

THE outdoor athletics season is under way, with Dartford Harriers athletes taking full advantage of the early open meetings.

These events are planned to allow anyone, whether or not they are an athletics club member, to compete in various track and field disciplines.

First off the mark was Claire Capon, who on Good Friday won the senior ladies hammer at Chelmsford with a throw of 37.49m.

The annual Easter Monday Norman Fowler memorial meeting at Tonbridge School attracted a copious number of entries, despite high winds and rain.

Adding to the throng were a dozen Dartford members, who managed to produce some excellent results, despite the weather.

Chelsey Eyers not only gained first place in the U17 ladies discus, but did it with a personal best and English schools qualifier of 33.50m.

Isio Orogun also had a very good day, with second place in the U15 girls 150m, in 19.8s, a pb and club record.

She won the 300m with 43.08s, also a pb.
