IT was a busy weekend for several of Dartford Harriers’ younger members, with the southern Schools’ inter-counties championships taking place at Southampton on Saturday and the national young athletes league meeting at Mile End on Sunday.
Five counties converged on the Southampton track, with many athletes on a quest for selection for the English schools championships at Sheffield in three weeks times.
Kent’s contingent must now await official selection letters this week.
The nine Dartford Harriers, all medal winners in the Kent schools championships last week, included four who have already produced ES qualifying performances.
They are Gemma Brown in the under-15 discus (UK rankings top eight), Natalie Hickmott in the under-17 300m (UK number four), Tim Billings in the under-17 shot and javelin (UK top six) and Adam Chalk 100m hurdles (UK top six).
Meanwhile, Daniel Shaw travelled to Kingseadow, Kingston, for the southern counties under-20s championships.
His silver medal throw of 54.70m exceeded the English schools qualification and he now awaits the verdict from the Kent selectors.
