Blackheath & Bromley Harriers duo Katy Ann McDonald and Helen Godsell have been in fine form.

McDonald is an U15 and improved the national 800m record to 2m06.47s in the British Milers Club women's A, race which was incorporated into the Cambridge Harriers Open Meeting at Sutcliffe Park.

She actually finished fourth against senior opposition, but her time improved the U15 record which has stood since 1982.

Meanwhile, Godsell got her European veterans athletic championships at Izmir in Turkey off to the best possible start by winning the over 60s 100m by over half a second in 14.24s.

Closer to home, a number of the club’s athletes were selected to represent their counties at CAU inter -counties championships at Bedford.

Kerri Davidson picked up a silver medal in the U20s triple jump with a leap of 12.16m, while Femi Oowlade won bronze in the 200m in 21.69s ,just one hundredth of a second clear of fourth-placed Dan Putnam.

It was fourth also for Luke Smallwood in the 400m hurdles (53.17s) and for Stefan Amokwandoh in the men's triple jump (14.34m).

Smallwood’s time of 52.51s in his heat was a new personal best.
