A WEST Wickham teenager has become the winner of the triathlon London junior series in the 13 and 14 age group.

Michael Eagling, a Year 7 pupil at Trinity School, competed in seven of the eight events in the series and made a podium place in each, including gold medals at the Optima, Greenwich and Thames Turbo aquathlons.

Matt Richbell, head of sport at Trinity School, said: “I am delighted Michael has won the triathlon London series in his age group.

“His achievement is all the more remarkable that he falls into the tristart three age bracket by just one month, meaning that he has been competing with athletes who are up to two years older than him.”

Eagling is set to represent Kent at the U13 southern inter-counties competition and London at the triathlon inter regional contest.

On Sunday he took part in the National Lottery 2.5K anniversary run at the Olympic Park, in a race started by Victoria Pendleton where he was the first competitor over the finishing line in a time of just over 10 minutes.
