CRYSTAL Palace fans are waiting anxiously to hear whether Dougie Freedman will stay or go after the Trotters made an official approach to the Eagles seeking permission to discuss the vacant managerial position at the Reebok with the Scotsman.
Freedman has guided the Eagles to last year’s League Cup semi-final and fourth in this season’s Championship table since replacing George Burley in January 2011, achievements which have made him Bolton’s number one target to replace Owen Coyle.
The 38-year-old’s deal at Selhurst Park runs out in the summer but it is believed Bolton are prepared to offer him the security of a three-year contract and a hefty pay rise, with a potential bonus should Freedman guide the Trotters back to the Premier League.
But despite the financial incentives, Bolton chairman Phil Gartside still has a hard pitch to make as Freedman could prove reluctant to leave a club where he is considered a legend and a highly talented squad who currently look a much better bet for promotion than the Lancashire outfit.
