DAMIEN Delaney admits there is still a lot of room for improvement despite the Eagles securing their sixth win in seven games on Saturday with another remarkable comeback against Burnley.

The Irish defender netted his first goal for the club since his summer arrival as a free agent from Ipswich Town to put Crystal Palace 3-2 up in the 66th minute after they had trailed 2-0.

They eventually came out on top 4-3 and Delaney was delighted with his own contribution.

He said: “It’s nice to chip in with a goal, especially as the third was an important one.

“The crowd were fantastic as well.

“They didn’t panic when we went 2-0 down, they stuck right with us when it would have been easy to start booing and that calmness helps out the players an awful lot.

“There was definitely a feeling, especially at 2-0 down, that we weren’t panicking because when you have people in the team like Wilfried Zaha and Yannick Bolasie, you are always going to score goals so there is no need to panic.

“We always knew we would win this game.”

But the 31-year-old concedes Palace must tighten up at the back and admitted there was actually a sombre mood in the dressing room after the match.

He explained: “It must be good to watch but I’m not sure we want to be involved in these sorts of games every week.

“We got away with one against Cardiff and again today, although I thought we thoroughly deserved the win today.

“But that luck won’t hold for too much longer, so we are going to have to tie a few things down.

“We need to take inspiration from some of our defensive performances away from home and implement that at home.

“There are goals in this team so we have to nail down a few things at the back now, especially at home because I think we’ve defended outstandingly away from home.

“Maybe that is a mindset we have going into the away games and we have to take that into the home games.

“It was a little bit sombre in the changing room, which is a good thing because if you’re down after coming back from 2-0 down and going fourth in the league, you must be doing something right.”
