Harriers youngsters in fine form at Erith

DARTFORD Harriers were in fine form at the recent U13, masters and multi-events competition at Erith.

In the U13 middle distance running, Holly Page, Chloe Sharp, Jessica Sellar, Rebecca Burford and Jasmine Anderson all displayed real talent.

Both Page and Sharp went under the current club record of 3m58.0s in the 1,200m with Page getting the silver medal in 3m50.39s.

She also picked up another silver in the 800m in 2m26.04s, while Sharp was rewarded with a bronze (2m26.70s) in the same race.

Being relatively new to the sport, Carys Tennant obtained a club record and championship best performance in the hammer (21.15m) and was also third in discus (21.12m) and 10th in javelin (12.78m).

Katie Woolcott and Sarah Ogunko ran well for fifth and seventh in the 75m.

The duo, along with Jasmine Andersen, also competed in the long jump.

The only U13 Dartford Harriers boy taking part was Ben Sutton and he was awarded with a medal of every colour, taking gold in the long jump, silver in the 200m and bronze in the 100m.

In the masters, 11 Harriers athletes took part, with every one of them medalling and five CBP’s achieved.

Teresa Eades and Gary Capon broke their own records, while Pat Halstead broke the W50 400m (85.99s), 800m (3m02.87s) and 1,500m (6m06.64s) records.

Unfortunately there was only one Dartford Harrier in action for multi-events, although Claire Capon came away victorious in the senior women’s heptathlon for the sixth time.

Capon obtained an overall score of 3,811 points, which was a personal best.

Meanwhile, David Hall was in Bedford winning the English schools combined events championships in the senior boys’ decathlon.

In a very consistent performance, Hall finished on a score of 6,518 points, placing him at UK number one for 2012.

Arthur Kimber was Dartford Harriers’ only representative at the masters athletes inter-area match at Solihull and was second in the M70 800m in a time of 3m09.8s.
