A PAIR of local boxers got off to a flying start in their first bouts of the new season.

Sidcup’s Danny Carr, 22, and 17-year-old Ted Cheeseman, who attends the Priory School in Orpington, were relentless in their respective victories over Mayflower ABC fighters Chris Adaway and Ryan Hart.

Carr kept the pressure on 2012 senior ABA semi-finalist Adaway with body punching and after putting him on the canvas in the second round, the Sidcup man finished the job with a devastating knock out in the third round, landing an overhand right on the chin of his opponent.

He said: “I have been training hard in the gym getting ready for this night and it couldn’t have gone any better.

“I look forward to fighting again very soon.”

Cheeseman was taking part in his first senior bout and facing a tough opponent in Hart, the 2012 senior ABA quarter-finalist and England representative.

But he proved far too strong for his more experienced opponent, landing body and head combinations throughout, resulting in Hart’s corner retiring him at the end of the second round.

“My first senior bout could not have gone any better,” said Cheeseman.

“I was a lot stronger than him and far too clever, he could not keep the pace up over the three minute rounds.”

Carr and Cheeseman, who are both members of Fisher ABC, also paid tribute afterwards to head coach Steve Hiser and everyone at the gym who made the show possible.
