DARTFORD’S Michael Saunders capped a successful season by finishing top of the Kent County Golf Union 2012 Order of Merit.

The OOM is measured over Kent’s top 18 amateur events throughout the year played at some of the finest and toughest courses, with points are awarded in order of finish for each event.

Dartford Golf Club’s Saunders won two of his last four events in the OOM, the Rochester & Cobham Open and the Kent Cob at Knole Park GC.

He was also and second in the Bishops Bowl at Wildernesse GC.

Winning the OOM is no mean achievement as the level of competition has been extremely high.

Kent golf is enjoying one of its best years ever, the depth and high standard of the county’s players has resulted in them finishing top of the England Golf’s 2012 county order of merit, beating 34 other counties.

Saunders’ achievements have not gone unnoticed as he has recently joined the England Golf A squad.
