Win a former England, Villa and Palace defender for your Sunday team
1:54pm Tuesday 2nd October 2012 in Sport
Gareth Southgate
FORMER Crystal Palace captain Gareth Southgate could be playing for your team soon if your club enters the Phones 4u £20,000 cash give away.
The Upgrade Your Team campaign supports grassroots and non-professional clubs to improve their team, whether they’re in need of a new kit, equipment or a minibus.
To take part sign your club up via the Upgrade Your Team competition app on the Phones 4u Facebook page facebook.com/phones4u
Clubs can register by creating a profile and describing what they’d spend the prize money on.
They then have until October 15 to get their fans behind them and rack up as many votes for their team as they can.
Teams can produce a personalised poster via the Upgrade Your Team app, which includes a unique QR code, so friends, family and fans can scan it with their mobile device to cast their vote.
Or they can simply visit the Phones 4u Facebook page directly to vote for the team they want to win.
The 10 lucky teams who top the leaderboard with the most votes will each be rewarded with £2,000 to kick their side into shape.
And one of those 10 teams will also have the chance for Southgate to play at one of their fixtures.
When entering the competition, teams will be asked why the ex-England and Palace defender should join their squad and Southgate himself will choose the most-deserving response.
He said: “All the best footballing talent comes through local and non-pro teams, but often they can struggle for funding so I was really keen to get involved with the Phones 4u Upgrade Your Team campaign to give them a boost.
“The competition is open to everyone, so whether you’re a youth team or a Sunday pub club, we want squads across the country to get involved and really rally support to get the votes rolling in.”
