Winter season gets underway in pool league

After an exciting summer of sport the South London & Kent Pool Alliance Winter season kicked off last night after a long wait and the new additions to the Premier Division all started with losses.
Last season’s first division champions White Hart, playing out of their new home Footscray Social Club went to Premier Division stalwarts Pickwick and went down 9 frames to 6.
Footscray’s Captain Scott Shephard led from the front winning two out of three including a ‘7-baller’ and should have won all three but went in off after potting the black.
Paul Gafa went one better for Pickwick winning all three of his frames and surprise surprise picked up the first (and probably only) time foul of the season.
Other promoted team Fox under the Hill A faced a baptism of fire against a new look O’Connors team ending up with a 12-3 loss.
Fox started well winning the first frame but it became a one sided affair with Jordan O’Connor and Tony Gear both achieving a break and dish against the same unfortunate opponent Kevin McNelly.
The other game of the division saw Rileys Woolwich overcome Bellegrove Social Club A 11-4 with Clive Black and Adam Everitt both getting three out of three for Woolwich.
In the SLKPA Division One a team from Rileys in Woolwich, Rileys Rovers also faced a Bellegrove team, Bellegrove Social Club B with the same 11-4 score line in favour of Rileys the outcome.
Rovers got off to a flyer winning the first set 4-1 then went on to take the second set 3-2 and finished the game strongly with another 4-1 set win.
Ryan Francis and Darren Porter both won all three of their frames and Steven Reed met Stephen Marsters in the final frame, each on two out of two but it was Reed of the Rovers who remained unbeaten.
Glenmore Arms saw their two teams battle it out for bragging rights in the pub and it was Glenmore II who produced a shock 8-7 win over the A team.
Despite their loss three of the A team came away unbeaten with Alan Rothwell winning three, Jeff Kingman winning two and Mark Carrano his solitary frame.
Beech Tree Nuthouse hosted New Eltham Social Club who went away with a 9-6 victory.
New Eltham’s debutant Jim Woodbridge scored two out of two but Miro Cujic went one better with all three frames.
In the SLKPA Division Two The Summerfield returned with a 9-6 win over Pickwick Academicals, who have only ever played in the Reserve League.
Crown started well against fellow new boys Life of Rileys 10-5 but the biggest win of the night went to another new side Rileys Rebels who ran away 12-3 victors against debutants Fanny on the Hill.
Another new team North Heath Social Club went to the Porcupine and picked up a 9-6 win.
