SAMMY Clingan has impressed Valley manager Chris Powell with his attitude so far since linking up with the Addicks for training earlier this week.

The 28-year-old midfielder is a free agent after being released by Coventry at the end of last season but could be in line for a possible deal with Championship newboys Charlton as he continues to shine at The Valley.

Powell remained open minded when asked this lunchtime if a deal for the Ulsterman was likely.

The Addicks boss said: “Sammy has been training with us. He was at Coventry last year in the Championship and is a Northern Ireland international.

“He joined us in training on Monday and it is just a chance for us to have a look at him at close quarters and then we will decide what happens in the future whether he carries on training or whether there is something there for him or not.

“He has been training and has looked OK.”

With most of his carerr spent in the Championship experience to his name, as well as 33 international caps, Powell accepts Clingan can certainly boast plenty of experience.

“You can see that in the way he plays and he has fitted in very well with the boys,” the manager added.

“It is just an opportunity for me to look at players.

“I’m always on the lookout for players to increase our squad and add quality if we can and he comes into that category.”
