Daish happy enough with Woking point (From News Shopper)

LIAM Daish believes Ebbsfleet United earned a valuable point in last night’s 2-2 home draw with Woking.

Phil Walsh popped up with a 75th minute header to rescue a share of the spoils to prevent a third straight defeat for the Stonebridge Road outfit.

Things started brightly as Joe Howe’s early opener put the hosts into an eight minute lead.

But Woking were soon back on terms when former Welling skipper Jack Parkinson equalised and then Brett Johnson put the Cards in front midway through the first half.

However, Ebbsfleet got their just rewards for an improved second half display when Walsh drew them level.

Not satisfied with a draw, Fleet continued to press but substitute Ben Greenhalgh couldn’t finish his fine run with a goal and Moses Ashikodi’s brilliant 30 yard strike clattered the post.

Manager Daish said: “It was a good point for us.

“We had a good second half comeback on Saturday but we didn’t get anything out of it.

“Today I thought the lads worked hard, our confidence was low but they stuck together under difficult circumstances.

“After the first half performance we lifted them and they went out there, had a real go at it and got what they deserved.

Daish added: “We were unlucky not to get all three points, but it’s a start.

“We were ahead in this game and out of nowhere we were 2-1 down, then people start to have their say in the stands and they are quick to get on the lads’ backs.

“I understand their frustration, but I am pleased for the lads because they deserved that today.

“There was a lot of naivety in midfield in the first half but we got our shape right in the end and we nullified them.

“After that we looked the stronger midfield, we looked more creative and like we had more energy.

“I suppose it is a good point.

“They had the first and we had the second half.”

Walsh received the man of the match award and his manager was quick to give both him and skipper Paul Lorraine the plaudits they deserved.

He explained: “There were some big performances tonight.

“A few of the players have taken some stick of late but I thought the two centre halves were magnificent today.

“To be fair to Walshy he was at fault for the first goal on Saturday against Barrow but he has reacted and replied with a commanding performance and a goal.”

Looking to the future the Ebbsfleet boss seemed to be optimistic.

Daish said: “I’m trying to get the lads to stick together.

“If you have a little bit of faith, you can turn it around.

“There were some good performances and on another day Ben Greenhalgh and Moses Ashikodi would have scored.”

The Fleet play away at Stockport on Saturday.

Daish added: “I go into every game believing we can do something, either win it or at least get a draw.

“I will believe we can go and do something up at Stockport, the important thing is the players believing in it.”
