YANN Kermorgant may have missed today’s 2-1 success at Portman Road but Valley chief Chris Powell has his fingers crossed the striker will be back for next Saturday’s date with Blackburn.

Ricardo Fuller made his first start at Ipswich and scored Charlton’s second after coming in for Kermorgant, who picked up an ankle injury in training 48 hours before the game.

But the manager is hopeful the problem isn’t too serious and the Frenchman will be available to take on Steve Kean’s side, although he admitted there is no recovery date on the injury just yet.

Powell explained: “We lost Yann Kermorgant through injury on Thursday at training.

“I don’t know how long he will be out for.

“It is just a knock on his ankle, a real innocuous sort of challenge.

“He was nowhere near ready for today.

“Touch wood he will respond to treatment and be up for selection next week.”

Blackburn have spent big since their relegation from the Premier League and sit second in the table, although they suffered their first defeat of the campaign last night at home to Middlesbrough.

However, despite a poor performance against Boro in front of the TV cameras, Powell quickly rejected the suggestion now might be the perfect time to play Rovers.

“Let me tell you in the Championship you can never say there is never a good time to play anyone in this league because not many teams string two or three wins together and that is all important in this league,” the Charlton manager said.

“They will be looking to respond from their defeat at home to Middlesbrough.

“It’s good for us that we are at home on the back of a solid performance and win.

“We will just go there again and focus ready to play in front of our fans and look to build on today.”
