Young golfer celebrates Kent success
12:21pm Thursday 13th September 2012 in Sport
A SIDCUP golfer has become the youngest winner of the Kent ladies golf championship since 1901.
Jerri Sewell, 16, emerged victorious from the three-day contest at Charts Hills GC by beating Dartford GC’s Anne Wheeble in the final.
Sewell found herself two down going onto the 16th but she had a drive to die for and sensibly walked away with a birdie, which took her to one down.
On the 18th, and still one down, the Blackfen School for Girls pupil holed a 30ft putt to tie the match, and they went down to the first again with Sewell managing to birdie this hole to seal victory.
Sewell is a member of Shooters Hill Golf Club and practices every day.
She holds the course record which she broke last year by winning the Scratch Cup by shooting a 67 (two under par).
The youngster has since broken her own course record again in August with a 65 (four under par).
