County glory for Hayes Common bowler

Barbara Martin Barbara Martin

A BOWLER from Hayes Common Bowls Club has become the Kent ladies singles champion.

Barbara Martin defeated Joan Collins from Dartford’s Halls Bowling Club in the final to land the county title in what is Hayes Common’s 60th diamond jubilee year.

Martin has been a member of the club for 20 years and has represented Kent in inter-county matches, although this win represents the biggest success of her career to date.

As well as playing the sport, Martin is also a qualified coach who is a great encourager to new members who join without previous bowling experience.

During the club's 60th diamond jubilee year members joined the Queen's jubilee with a red, white and blue celebratory afternoon, held a Cream Tea event and had two fund-raising events for the 2013 world blind bowls championships, which will be held in the UK.
