Members bowled over at club finals day

TERRY Hayzen and Jill Birch both enjoyed singles success at the recent Queens Mead Bowling Club finals weekend.

Although everything was played in a professional and friendly manner, no quarter was given and tournament umpire Jack Harrison was kept busy measuring and adjudicating on a number of close calls.

Hayzen defeated Ray Terrett 24-8 in the men’s championship, while Birch overcame Valerie Kerry to win the women’s contest at the Bromley club.

Birch completed a treble by also winning the ladies’ handicap (21-13 v Eileen Griffiths) and the ladies’ 100-up (104-76 v Jean Cornell).

However, Hayzen was pipped at the post in both the men’s two-wood (9-14 v Ray Terrett) and the men’s 100-up (99-101 v Cliff Broughton).

In the men’s handicap Bernard Myerscough saw off Ray Rose 21-17, while Hazel Howes saw off Joan Harrison 19-12 in the ladies’ two-wood.
