Lewisham boxer knows tough test awaits at Epsom racecourse
1:55pm Wednesday 12th September 2012 in Sport
LEWISHAM super middleweight Rossco Parker believes his next fight in the Queensbury Boxing League will be another tough assignment as he looks towards securing a crack at title glory.
The 36-year-old police worker was last in action in June when he was involved in a thrilling battle with Manchester’s Dean Whitby.
And after emerging victorious after three gruelling rounds, Parker has now targeted a shot at old rival Sam Holloway if he can get past his next opponent on September 22 at Epsom racecourse.
Standing in the way of Parker securing his dream showdown with Ramsgate’s Holloway will be talented Manchester exponent James Higgy.
After sharing the ring with Higgy’s stable-mate Whitby last time out, Parker is under no illusions he is in for a tough night at the office when the pair lock horns.
The Lewisham ace said: “My last fight with Whitby was a hard hard fight, and in my eyes Higgy is a better fighter so this is not going to be an easy ride.
“After seeing footage of James in some of his previous bouts he looks technically sound and, like Whitby, he’s a tough lad.
“There have been a number of things I’ve been working on during training with my fitness coach Lady Raja which I hope will pay off in the fight.
“At the end of the day there are no easy fights in the Queensbury Boxing League for me, but I like that.
“I want to be involved in exciting fights fans can enjoy and I think this one will not disappoint when we get in there on the night.”
If Parker does emerge victorious then the league’s promoters have promised him a second crack at Holloway’s title, so there will be plenty of incentive there for him when the first bell sounds.
Parker’s clash with Higgy will feature as one of the chief supporting contests on the packed f14-bout bill.
