Bromley 1-0 Bath City
9:40am Tuesday 11th September 2012 in Sport
PIERRE Joseph-Dubois scored Bromley’s winner in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Bath City at Hayes Lane.
After Lillywhites keeper Joe Welch had fisted away a stinging shot from Kurtis Guthrie in the fourth minute, Bromley went on to dominate against one of the pre-season promotion favourites.
Ali Chaaban’s header was saved before Bromley took the lead in the 10th minute.
Sanchez Ming won possession on the halfway line before proceeding to send in a pinpoint cross as Joseph-Dubois rose majestically to guide a header past Glyn Garner in the Bath goal.
Joseph-Dubois and Chaaban both went close to increasing the advantage, but the visitors hit back with Adrian Harris trying his luck from distance and Charlie Griffin unleashing a firm drive which ended in Welch’s mid-riff.
With Garner out of his goal, Richard Pacquette should have done better on 25 minutes and Ali Fuseini blazed over with only the keeper to beat after being put through by Pacquette moments later.
As half-time approached, Keates exchanged passed with Adam Connolly and the latter forced Welch to spread himself well to tip around the post from close range.
The second period saw more of the same with Joseph-Dubois breaking clear but his final touch let him down, before Michael Malcolm’s shot was blocked by Danny Ball.
Debutant Elliott Buchanan, who replaced the injured Pacquette at the break, was unlucky when the keeper just managed to get his finger tips to the substitute’s low shot.
The visitors might have levelled the scores on 62 minutes when Keate’s received the ball from a right wing cross, but Moses Swaibu saved the day with a timely tackle just as the forward was about to pick his spot.
Substitute Brad Norris headed wide with what was arguably Bath’s best chance of the game a few minutes later.
Further chances fell Bromley’s way as they pushed forward.
Joseph-Dubois twice went close in quick succession, Danny Waldren’s header just shaved the bar and Buchanan pulled a shot wide of the far post after intercepting a clearance.
Joseph-Dubois screwed an effort wide in the last minute following good work from Buchanan, as Bromley completed a satisfactory afternoon’s work to lift themselves up to 13th in the table.
This weekend the Lillywhites make the long journey to Truro City, kick-off 3pm.
