Sullivan edges closer to move after Spurs keeper deal
JOHN Sullivan moved a step closer to a Valley exit after Charlton today completed the signing of keeper David Button from Tottenham.
The 23-year-old came through the ranks at White Hart Lane and even though he only ever played once for their first team in a cup game, he has enjoyed several successful loan moves and represented England at U16, U17, U19 and U20 levels.
Valley manager Chris Powell said after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Hull Ben Hamer had earned the right to be Charlton’s number one, so Button looks certain to fill Sullivan’s regular place on the bench with the former Millwall keeper poised to go out on loan.
Powell said today: “David will provide strong competition in the goalkeeping department and that can only benefit us going forward.”
Meanwhile, it has been reported the Addicks have received bids for two of their first team regulars, Chris Solly and Dale Stephens.
Solly is rumoured to be the subject of double interest from West Ham and Bolton, while Stephens is being linked with Premier League strugglers Aston Villa.
