Eastbourne Borough 3-0 Bromley
4:29pm Wednesday 22nd August 2012 in Sport
BROMLEY were well beaten at Eastbourne Borough last night.
The three goals, two of which were penalties, came in the space of eight minutes either side of half-time to put an end to any hope Bromley might have had of salvaging anything from their second league fixture of 2012/13 at Priory Lane.
Eastbourne Borough were by far the better side andapart from the first 15 minutes, completely outplayed a poor Bromley side.
The game opened brightly enough with James Walker failing to capitalise on a mistake by Liam Harwood on five minutes.
Richard Pacquette, playing against one of his former clubs, deserved better when he got in front of the keeper to flick his effort just over the bar from Michael Malcolm’s cross a few minutes later.
Charles Ademeno shot across the face of the goal and just wide for the home side before Danny Waldren’s lob over defence resulted in a poor shot from Ali Chaaban.
But this was as good as it got for Bromley.
Joe Welch made a great double save from Chris Shepherd’s free-kick on 17 minutes and an even better stop minutes later when he somehow blocked Ademeno’s fierce volley at point blank range.
Walker flashed a volley inches wide of the far post before the home side opened the scoring on 40 minutes from the penalty spot. A deep cross from the right appeared to be missed by Welch and Waldren, in attempting to clear his lines, bundled over a forward with a clumsy challenge.
Walker sent Welch the wrong way with the spot kick.
Eastbourne doubled their tally with the last kick of the half, again from the penalty spot. This time Chaaban was the culprit as he chested down a cross which then rebounded upwards onto his outstretched hand. Ademeno blasted the resultant penalty home.
Two interval substitutions by Bromley had no effect and the result was put beyond doubt on 48 minutes when Shepherd took advantage of a mistake by substitute Aaron Rhule.
He raced away and placed a shot past the exposed Bromley keeper from just inside the area.
The home side continued to press forward and create chances, with Bromley’s night of woe summed up in the 80th minute.
Hakeem Araba was brought down in the penalty area but the striker’s poorly struck spot kick rolled along the ground for the Eastbourne keeper to make any easy save.
Late on Mike Jones broke clear on goal but the home keeper did well to block his shot, which left Bromley still looking for their first goal after two matches.
