European success for Crayford darts sensation
3:28pm Thursday 9th August 2012 in Sport
A BEXLEYHEATH Academy student has become a European champion after a double success while representing England U18s at the European Cup in Belgium.
Casey Gallagher, 15, lifted the singles and doubles crown at the contest on July 22 and is the youngest ever English player to win it.
What makes the Crayford girl’s success even more impressive is the fact she only took up the sport one year ago at the age of 14 after being introduced to darts by her dad and brothers, who all play in local leagues.
Gallagher now represents London County A, Sussex Youth and England Youth and followed up her continental triumph the following week at Blackpool where she became the U18 British girls’ champion.
She has ambitions to turn pro and signed a sponsorship deal in April which covers all of her entrance fees, accommodation and travel.
In June Gallagher was invited to participate in the British ladies’ pentathlon where she finished 10th and became the youngest British player to take part in the competition’s history.
Her next goal is to be selected to represent England U18s in the world championship next year in Canada.
