Sporting background: That Dan should end up playing basketball is no surprise, not so much because he stands at 6ft10”, but because his dad Mark is a former GB women’s team coach and his mum was a GB international.

The Greenwich-born ace has been playing professionally in Spain since 2006 and is currently on the books of Estudiantes.

He says: If we aim for a place in the quarter-finals, it would be a disappointment if we didn't make it.

We're aiming for the highest level possible - I think we're very capable.

We say: Team GB will be quietly confident of escaping from their group and into the knockout stages, but it is a tough ask expecting them to deliver a medal.
