FORMER Den captain Les Briley has been appointed assistant manager of Millwall Lionesses.

Briley is best known for representing Millwall during the most successful period in the club’s history when they were members of the old First Division between 1988 and 1990.

The midfielder skippered the club during a seven-year career at The Den and will now help Lionesses manager Alberto Kurti in next season’s southern premier league campaign.

Briley currently works at the Millwall academy as the boys’ U15s manager and is also technical director at the Millwall and Lewisham girls’ centre of excellence.

He said: “Working with Alberto to date has been an exciting new challenge for me as I had only come on board as technical director of the centre of excellence.

“I can’t wait for the new season to come around.

“The girls are fantastic and we are creating a great atmosphere and learning environment for everyone.”

Manager Kurti added: “The team is very lucky to have someone of Les Briley’s calibre on board.

“His legendary status on and off the pitch is a great asset to me and the squad.

“Les’ experience and knowledge of the game can only help drive us forward in our quest to succeed in the league next season.”
